The island is reachable by ferry and the trip takes about 90 minutes. You can also get to the island by personal watercraft or plane.

The island is known as "the birthplace of winemaking in Canada" so you won't want to miss out on a trip to Pelee Island Winery, "Canada’s Southernmost Estate Winery," according to the website.

With gorgeous vineyards and wood fired pizza, the winery is a dreamy spot to spend an afternoon.

It isn't an island getaway without relaxing on a beach, and Pelee Island boasts several gorgeous swimming spots.

According to Discover Pelee Island, the "beaches are best of Lake Erie beaches" and offer warm waters and sandy shores.

You can take a dip at Fish Point Nature Reserve and Lighthouse Point Provincial Nature Reserve, or head to Sunset Beach for warm sand and beautiful views.

East Park Beach is a quiet spot to enjoy the water without the crowds.

The island also boasts restaurants, eateries and inns so you can stay for a summer weekend or longer.
