Who is eligible to receive the Canada Child Benefit?

To be eligible for the Canada Child Benefit, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Live with a child under 18 and be primarily responsible for their care.
  • Be a resident of Canada for tax purposes, with Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, protected status, or other specified qualifications.
  • Not receive CCB for a foster child when Children's Special Allowances (CSA) are payable.
  • Be an individual who is registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act.

Additionally, you may qualify if you care for a child under a kinship or close relationship program, provided CSA is not payable for that child.

How much $ can you receive from the Canada Child Benefit?

Per the CRA, if your adjusted family net income is under $36,502, you can get the maximum amount for each child and it will not be reduced.

In this case, you can receive the following for each child:

  • $7,787 per year ($648.91 per month) for children under six years of age*
  • $6,570 per year ($547.50 per month) for children six to 17 years of age
